In December 2020, Sadu, the weaving practiced by bedouin women, was added to UNESCO’s Intangible heritage list. This was a momentous development and bodes well for the Gulf as a whole.  From the culture of scent to oral poetry and the coffee ceremony, many are the riches of this part of the world that have for too long gone unrecorded or unnoticed. Validating them at the global level is important for us to recognize the value of our heritage and for others to finally realize that our cultures run much deeper than oil wells. 

في كانون الأول/ ديسمبر 2020، أضيف السدو إلى قائمة اليونيسكو للتراث المعنوي. وكانت تلك لحظة بالغة الأهميّة وتبشر بالخير لمجمَل الخليج. فمن ثقافة العطر، إلى إلقاء الشعر، ومراسم القهوة، كثير منها تمثّل ثروة هذا الجانب من الكرة الأرضيّة، ولطالما ظلّت هذه الثروة غير مدوّنة ولا ملحوظة. ولعل تقديرها على المستوى العالمي مهمٌّ لنا حتّى نعترف بقيمة ميراثنا، ومهمٌ للآخرين حتى يدركوا أخيراً أن ثقافاتنا تغوص عميقاً، أعمق من آبار النفط.
